...and so by accident I stumbled on an analysis of a structure in English that is very like the one I'm working on for Swahili in this paper, and I'm totally wrong. It was already a weak point that I didn't know exactly how to cash out semantically, and now that I've read this paper I see that there's no way to do it. Or at least, not the way I was doing it. See, I wanted to say that the modal was binding a variable in the adjunct, but in fact, the thing I thought it was binding is restricting the modal quantifier! Hah hah. Silly me. I am so screwed.
