The festoon was a success. We got the house and food ready in a timely, even semi-leisurely fashion, and some people came over including a bumper crop of three linguists (all of whom I like!) and an Africanist. The caramel, homemade this year, worked out fine and was yummier than store-bought, as I had planned. Relaxed, pleasant. Yay.

But between the various things involved in getting ready for the festoon and being generally overworked, we ate out for several days straight, didn't exercise, and as a result I gained three pounds. Not so great. Time for a spell on the exercise bike, methinks.

People have seemed more full of the Halloween spirits this year than in years past. Lots of people wandering around in costume even several days beforehand. I approve.
