Took mom to the doctor today. She still doesn't have a car, and she can't understand anything anyone says to her, so it falls to me to come along as interpreter and note-taking service. The good news is that despite her incessant complaining about the ravages of age, at 87 she is still only taking one med, and it looks like she doesn't have blood cancer either. Hooray! Maybe she will be around long enough that it will be worth it to teach her to stop asking her doctors what their country of origin is, and to not say things like, after the doc has explained that life expectancy in India is generally lower because of poor medical care, higher rates of traffic accidents and violent crime, "Well, I see why three of my doctors have come here from there! You just like it better!"

Cue liberal daughter sinking deeply into phone.
Not that she isn't liberal, but it would take a bit to catch her up on the whole "microaggressions" concept.
