Mother’s Day: what I really want is a temporary easing of obligations related to motherhood, not a temporary increase in them. I resent having to try to make my children manufacture tokens of affection for grandmothers. I resent having to act like I give a shit about Mother’s Day. I resent the implication that there’s something wrong with me if I don’t give a shit about Mother’s Day. Just for starters. I resent having to thank people 500 times today for wishing me a happy mother’s day.
